Karen Browdy

Karen Scott Browdy, born and raised in Philadelphia, PA has been a Californian since 1969.  After careers in education and graphic design, Karen’s interests turned to fine art; first calligraphy and watercolor, and then collage and mixed mediums.

She has studied art and design in classes at Santa Barbara City College and its Adult Education Division as well as in numerous private workshops. She holds a BA in French from Juniata College, Huntingdon, PA and an MA in Applied Linguistics from San Jose State University.

Since 1999, Karen has been an adjunct instructor on the art faculty of Santa Barbara City College’s Continuing Education Division where she teaches classes in collage, mixed media and assemblage. She also holds private workshops in her Fillmore  and Ventura studios as well as in other locations.  Her award-winning work has been shown in California

since 1994.

Karen is a member of the Santa Barbara Art Association, Collage Artists of America, Artists of Step One, The Santa Barbara Sculptors’ Guild, The Artists’ Guild of Fillmore and The Buenaventura Art Association. Karen is the founding president of Step One Art Gallery and The Carpinteria Valley Arts Council, organizations seeking to establish a Community Center for the Arts in Carpinteria, CA.  More recently, she has established the Steering Committee for Artists of Step One, a group advocating for local art and artists.  Karen maintains studios in Ventura and Fillmore.
